Two Off-Duty NYPD Albanian-American Officers Honored with Heroism Award at Babylon Town Hall

Babylon, NY — The American Albanian Law Enforcement Association (AALEA) proudly recognizes NYPD Officers Alban and Albert Lekaj, two Albanian-American brothers, who were honored today at Babylon Town Hall with the Heroism Award for their courageous actions while off duty.

While in Lindenhurst, the brothers witnessed a theft in progress and immediately intervened to stop the crime. Their quick and selfless actions led to the arrest of the suspect, who violently resisted and stabbed one of the officers during the encounter. Thankfully, the injured officer is recovering and expected to make a full recovery.

Their extraordinary bravery and unwavering commitment to public safety, even when off duty, reflect the highest ideals of the NYPD and the Albanian-American law enforcement community.

AALEA Board President Erald Krisafi stated:

“Officers Alban and Albert Lekaj represent the very best of who we are — courageous, selfless, and dedicated to protecting others without hesitation. Their heroism reminds us why the law enforcement profession is rooted in service and sacrifice. The entire Albanian-American community stands proud of their example.”

The American Albanian Law Enforcement Association commends Officers Lekaj for their heroism, professionalism, and pride in service. Their actions continue to strengthen the bridge between the NYPD and the Albanian-American community.
