Washington DC , AALEA Strengthen Ties with Albanian State Police

In a landmark series of meetings held in Washington, D.C., Mr. Gledis Nano, the General Director of the Albanian Police, engaged in discussions with representatives of the Albanian American Law Enforcement Association (AALEA USA). Mr. Nano’s visit to the US capital came as part of an official mission where he held pivotal discussions with key figures from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the US Department of State, and the Department of Justice. These high-level dialogues underscore the unprecedented level of cooperation between the Albanian Police and their American counterparts.

General Director Nano’s efforts in fostering these relations with American authorities have been instrumental in enhancing exchanges that directly bolster the Albanian State Police’s position. This significant visit to Washington, D.C. marks a crucial step towards strengthening collaborative efforts in combating injustice, organized crime, and corruption. It is imperative for all Albanians, both in Albania and in the diaspora, to wholeheartedly support the State Police in their endeavors to establish a new paradigm in law enforcement.

During the meeting with AALEA representatives, Director Nano commended the organization’s role in uniting law enforcement officers of Albanian heritage across the United States. He highlighted AALEA’s potential as a vital conduit between Albania and the United States, particularly within law enforcement circles.

In response, AALEA representatives expressed their unwavering readiness to support the State Police, not only as a liaison but also as a means to disseminate best practices and methodologies to Albania. They pledged their full support to Director Nano and his team and presented a commendation emblem to the State Police on behalf of the entire organization.

Of particular interest to General Director Nano was Albanian-American police officer Ervis Onuzi. Officer Onuzi displayed remarkable professionalism and bravery when he was shot in the line of duty while aiding a colleague during an armed confrontation in Philadelphia. AALEA recently honored Officer Onuzi for his exceptional service.

In a reciprocal gesture, AALEA has been invited by Mr. Nano to organize a delegation for an official visit to Tirana. This visit will include high-level meetings in Kosovo and North Macedonia, further strengthening ties and fostering collaboration across borders.
